Flo SKU Sync keeps inventory synchronised across products and variants that share the same SKU. However, due to a current limitation in Shopify, inventory changes made using the Shopify Transfers feature cannot be detected automatically by the app.
Understanding this limitation will help you avoid inventory discrepancies when transferring stock between Shopify locations.
Shopify Transfer Limitation
Flo SKU Sync relies on Shopify webhooks to detect inventory changes and synchronise duplicate SKUs.
While Shopify sends webhooks for most inventory updates, it does not trigger webhook events when inventory is transferred between Shopify locations using the Transfers feature.
Because no webhook is generated, Flo SKU Sync is not notified that inventory has changed.
This behaviour has been confirmed by Shopify, and we have submitted a request for Shopify to provide webhook support for inventory transfers.
Impact
When inventory is moved between Shopify locations using Transfers:
- Flo SKU Sync does not receive a notification about the inventory change.
- Duplicate SKUs are not automatically synchronised.
- Products sharing the same SKU may temporarily display different inventory quantities across locations.
Example
Suppose you have two products that share the same SKU (SKU-123):
- Product A is stocked at Location A
- Product B is stocked at Location B
You transfer 10 units of SKU-123 from Location A to Location B using Shopify Transfers.
What Happens?
- Shopify correctly updates the inventory at both locations.
- Shopify does not send a webhook for the transfer.
- Flo SKU Sync is unaware that the inventory has changed.
- The duplicate SKU inventory remains out of sync until it is updated manually or another supported inventory event occurs.
Recommended Workaround
To keep duplicate SKU inventory accurate after using Shopify Transfers:
- Open the Flo SKU Sync app.
- Navigate to Inventory Restock → Detailed View.
- Click Analyze Now to load the latest inventory data.
- Update the affected SKU inventory as required.
This ensures that all products and variants sharing the same SKU are synchronised correctly across your Shopify locations.
Important Note
Shopify Transfers are currently not supported for automatic synchronisation because Shopify does not generate webhook notifications for inventory transfers between locations. Until Shopify introduces webhook support for this feature, inventory changes made through Transfers must be synchronised manually using the Detailed View in Flo SKU Sync.
