What Happens If You Change Your Shopify Theme?

When you change your Shopify theme, Highlights do not automatically carry over to the new theme. Your Highlight content stays saved in the Smart App — but you need to reinstall the integration on the new theme.

Before You Begin

  • Keep the Smart App installed — your Highlight configurations remain in the app dashboard.
  • Duplicate your current theme before switching, as a backup.

What Happens When You Switch Themes

When you change your Shopify theme, any custom Highlights integration from your old theme will not automatically transfer to the new one. This is because theme integration code (or app blocks) lives inside the theme files — not inside the app itself.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Install or activate your new Shopify theme.
  2. Re-add Highlights to the new theme using one of these methods:
  3. If you use Highlight Groups, re-add the integration code for each group location.
  4. Preview a product page to confirm Highlights display correctly.

Note: Additional information is required here to complete this documentation. A video guide was referenced in the original article for the step-by-step theme migration process.

Expected Result

Your existing Highlights (configured in the app) appear on product pages in the new theme after integration is re-added.
